"Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
- George Bernard Shaw
How often do we unconsciously define ourselves and stay within our old limitations? We unwittingly block ourselves and don't let us change and grow.
Here are three examples I heard just this week:
From a violinist: I'm musical and I play in tune, but I can't play fast.
From an office team member: I take a long time to process things, I'm kind of slow and stupid.
From a retiree: I don't commit to things long-term.
These beliefs - which, remember, are just thoughts we think over and over - feel completely true, and we have evidence to support them!
And they lead us to create even more evidence to back them up.
Because, on some level, so often we'd rather be right than happy!
Seems perverse, but it's our whole system wired to keep us safe. In fact I like to refer to our safety zone, rather than our comfort zone. (Because it sure as heck isn't comfortable most of the time!)
But, when you identify one of these limiting beliefs, which are getting in your way of being, doing or having more, what can you do about it?
Well, here are 3 ways of changing the energy, the mind and the whole nervous system... and that's where magic starts to happen!
1. Create a New Mantra.
Notice how you talk (even complain, rant or whine) to yourself and to others.
Then take your negative belief and flip it around.
'I can't play fast' most simply, becomes 'I can play fast.'
And if that's too bold, soften it with
I choose: I choose to be able to play fast.
Or I allow: I allow myself to play fast.
I'm slow to process becomes I process fast and easily.
Or I choose to process fast and easily.
Or I allow myself to process fast and easily.
Make yours into a Mantra. Write it down and say, or read it, several times a day until it becomes natural to you.
2. Write your New Evidence List.
Our mind is so quick to come up with all the failures, the mistakes, the screw-ups, times when we just weren't good enough (or felt that way.)
So we need to make an effort to counteract this with all the times we did succeed, got it right, triumphed, were more than good enough, even brilliant.
I dare you to come up 100 (yes, ONE HUNDRED!) pieces of New Evidence over the next few days. By the time you get to around #75 you'll start to know it's true!!
3. Tell a New Story.
Use this short tapping and 'I AM' guided meditation video from my Embrace Happiness course. You'll clear what's getting in the way of changing the inner narrative and start to believe new, more empowering things about yourself.Click here: TELL A NEW STORY
