How to Use Oracle Cards ✨

Have you ever wondered how to use Oracle Cards?

Over the years I've picked up hints and tips and now I use them regularly as a way of connecting to my inner wisdom and spiritual guidance.

I also love to use them with my clients, as an extra tool and additional layer of understanding and inspiration.

So... 'How do you use Oracle Cards?'

It's a great question, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer of course. But I thought I'd share my whys and howand recommendations (and scroll down for how to pick your own card!)

What are Oracle Cards?

Just for clarity, Oracle Cards are NOT Tarot Cards. That is definitely not my area of expertise! Nope, they are decks, typically of 30 to 60 cards, aimed to provide you with messages of love and positive guidance, illustrated with figures and symbols, usually accompanied by a little booklet where they go into the messages in depth.

Here are some of the decks I've acquired over the years.
If you haven't got your own deck, scroll down to find out how to pick your own card!

When to use Oracle Cards?

  • When you want clarity or advice without asking someone else for their opinion.
  • When you want to feel connected to your intuition and your own inner wisdom.
  • When you want to be encouraged and uplifted or taken out of negative thought patterns.

The best question

Yes or No questions aren't so effective with Oracle Cards as the messages are open to interpretation. The best question I've discovered to ask before you pick a card is this one:

What do I need to know right now about.........?

For example, yesterday, with my client we used 'What do I need to know right now about making choices for myself?'

Next, shuffle your pack and get picking. Most of the packs have instructions and you can do whole spreads if you feel so inclined. I prefer one or two cards at one sitting.

Here's my step-by-step process:

How to Use Oracle Cards
  1. Shuffle.
  2. Cut the cards.
  3. Start roughly spreading them out on the floor. Mix them around, stir 'em up!
  4. Notice 'jumpers'! Literally, cards that seem to jump or fly out from the pack. Or that your eye is drawn to. This is where your intuition is already activated.
  5. Turn your card, or cards, over. Put the others aside, and read the messages.
  6. Reflect! I usually spend a little time writing or thinking, and keep a couple of words in mind through the day.
  7. Next time, Lather Rinse and Repeat! So here's one I did right now! And the card I got was kind of perfect!

Here's an example as I was writing this article.

The pack I used - Work Your Light, by Rebecca Campbell. Thanks to my Reiki-Master friend Isabella for recommending this one to me, I am finding it spot on every time. 😍

Start with a good shuffle. I like to use the floor or a couch and spread with abandon!

Shuffle

Notice the 'jumper'! That card that

  • Spins or leaps out from the pack
  • Stays resolutely on the top even when you ignore it
  • Draws your eye or your curiosity like it's shouting 'Pick me!'
  • Even a card that hides shyly behind its mates!

Yup, you're already using your intuition. Just go for it. I've seen it work over and over.
