Intentioning

There is a handy little tool that I have been using lately...and creating little miracles in my life.

It's what I call 'Intentioning'. This is a little like 'paving the way' or setting up what is to come. I like to think of it as 'rolling out a red carpet' into my future.

It's quick, it's easy and you don't need any special equipment or training!

Here's how it works.

1

Think of a situation coming up.  Especially one which has you feeling uneasy or worried or fearful. Or maybe anticipating anger, boredom or other 'negative' emotions.

Ask yourself: 'How would I like this situation to turn out, in an ideal world?'

Write down, or physically take notes, how this perfect future scenario is going to look. Just one thing! Remember the condition 'This, or something even better for my highest good, and for the highest good of all concerned.'

Remember that even if we could control what other people do , it isn't desirable or the best thing for us. As Wallace D. Wattles, the author of 'The Science of Growing Rich' says in his wise words:

'You cannot make another man do things. If forcing another to do things by physical force is wrong, forcing them by mental force is equally wrong.

You can be as imaginative and fantastic here as you like. Really go for the 'best case scenario' as you contemplate what would make you feel great.

2

Clear any limiting beliefs or blocks that you may hold around this. Those thoughts of 'This can't possibly happen' or 'I don't deserve that' or 'Yeah, yeah, right. Nothing good ever happens to me.' (Ouch.)

My tool or energy technique of choice here is EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping. It is just perfect for clearing and opening ourselves mentally and emotionally (and physically too, in all likelihood) to greater and more beneficial possibilities. (See my article for more information about EFT.)

A word of caution here. Do not miss this step!!

The point is to set your intention and then move into the situation transmitting an energy which will attract to you what you desire. If there are still doubts and conflicting feelings that is what you are going to get back. Not what we want!!

3

Get on with your life. When you get to the scenario that you have been focusing on, let go of expectations and desired outcomes. Just go with what happens, keeping open to whatever that might be. I have found that often what unfolds is full of unimagined events and serendipitous moments. I marvel at how neatly and elegantly the Universe presents solutions, seeming coincidences and surprises.

So take notice! Write down what happens. We are masters at 'forgetting' these mini-miracles. Marvel at the way things are worked out 'for the good of all concerned` in ways that would never occurred to you.

Here's a simple example that occurred for me recently.

I had had a very stressful rehearsal in the orchestra. The woman sitting in front of me kept turning round, shooting me filthy looks at perceived errors. And another girl, a few seats away kept playing in the silences and not with the rest of the strings. I found myself getting more and more bothered and distracted.

Before  the next day`s rehearsal I imagined myself having a great time, playing well and accurately, able to focus on the music and on the other people around me without being put off by these two women. I tapped on the phrase 'Even though I'm really bothered by these two women, I love and accept myself.'

When I got to the rehearsal two things happened. First of all, the woman in front of me wasn't there. Turns out she had another commitment and couldn't make the rehearsal that day. Strike one. And secondly, the other switched into the second violins (so playing a different, slightly easier and less conspicuous part) because another player had already played the first violin part, so took over for her.

Ta daa! Everyone happy, no hurt feelings, no catastrophes.

So why not try it? It takes a little mental effort on your part but the results are worth it.

Why do I think this works?

Well, I believe that as well as physical tangible bodies which we can see, hear, touch, taste and feel, there are also energetic ‘fields’ within and without them.

How can you explain the atmosphere which affects (or infects?!) a crowd of people? Listening spellbound to an amazing musical performance, watching the last few tense minutes of a long, drawn-out tennis match, or the sense of danger when a politically charged mob is getting wound up with anger and indignation.

You can’t touch the energy created…but you can’t deny that it really is there.

And we project our energy out into the future. Very often as worry and concern – because culturally we have been programmed to ‘fear the worst’, almost as a defense mechanism, the old ‘Well, if it doesn’t happen, anything else will be a blessed relief.’

It is so easy to start writing our own personal horror movie scripts. After all, isn’t that just being realistic?

But as they say, 90% of what we worry about doesn’t happen – so are the ‘doom and gloom’ scenarios we predict any more real than made up ‘feel good, happy-ending’ projections?

I don’t think so.

And don’t forget ‘What you focus on expands’. So it makes sense to focus on a positive, uplifting, life enhancing possible future – at least you’ll be feeling better right now so will be able to go into the situation with a clear mind. A smile on your lips and a bounce in your step.

Try it and see! I predict you will start to love intentioning just as much as I do!
